Telangana: Opposition asks Governor for Nerella probe
They requested him to take steps to book cases against the Sircilla superintendent of police and other police officials.
Hyderabad: An delegation of leaders of Opposition parties called on Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan on Monday and requested him to institute an independent probe into alleged atrocities committed by the police against SCs, STs and BCs in Nerella in Sircilla district.
They requested him to take steps to book cases against the Sircilla superintendent of police and other police officials under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
The delegation comprised Congress leaders N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, K. Jana Reddy, Shabbir Ali, S.A. Sampath Kumar and Guduru Narayana Reddy; BJP leaders Dr K. Laxman and Chinta Sambamurthy; TD leaders L. Ramana, A. Revanth Reddy and M. Narasimhulu; Prof. Kodandaram of the TJAC, the CPI’s Chada Venkat Reddy and Prof. P.L. Visweswara Rao of AAP.
They said that in Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s Bangaru Telangana, “the lives of Dalits have less value than that of sand mafia lorries”. They said all mining contracts were given to the family members of Mr Rao.
