‘Proud to be a woman this I-Day’
Each woman in this country should join the armed forces at least for five years, say woman officers
HYDERABAD: As the nation is celebrating the 75 Independence Day, it is also going to display its women power by deploying female officers in the armed forces at the I-Day parades. With the passage of time, the nation has witnessed a growing number of women who are coming forward to serve the nation in challenging circumstances. During the last Republic Day celebrations, a woman was the commanding officer for the armed forces.
According to them, each woman in this country should join the armed forces at least for five years, which will bring out the real potential in women. The government should provide more opportunities for women and the society should allow women to choose their own professions.

On the eve of Independence Day, Deccan Chronicle spoke to a cross section of women officials. Here is what they said.
The journey of 75 years of Independence has been progressive. During this journey, to safeguard the spirit of freedom, many officers have sacrificed their lives. Now we see many women in the armed forces, from tradespersons to commanding officers. We feel proud when women excel in every field. In the forces, we live in a cosmopolitan culture. As a medical practitioner, I feel we need more emphasis on health education and sensitising people on preventive medicine.
Dr K. Sharmila Reddy, Assistant Commandant, Composite Hospital, CRPF
On the 75th Independence Day, I want that every girl should join the armed forces at least for five years, as the forces always encourage women. Her confidence is boosted, she is given a chance to explore her true self, her real potential is brought out. When a women officer goes to her hometown, she is treated with respect and girls take her as an inspiration. The right to choose should be given to girls in our society.
Seema Rani Dahiya, Wing Commander
We have seen an amazing transformation of this nation. We are connected to our cultures and traditions, we have reached above the skies. There is a tremendous change in the attitude of women, they are now leading in most of the fields. The number of women in the armed forces is growing. This is a good sign for the growth of a nation.
Major Jayasudha, NCC company commander
From the time of Independence, women have been doing their best. Women are taking care of their families while serving society. They are in positions which are challenging but, still, they clear all hurdles and complete the task. In future, more women should opt for the police and armed forces.
