Flyover work picks pace on AP CM's order
After delays, locals skeptical of deadline being met.
Vijayawada: While work on the Kanakadurga flyover has gathered pace following the Chief Minister’s intervention, citizens of Vijayawada remain skeptical that it would be completed by the latest deadline.
They have valid enough reasons for their scepticism, repeated extensions of deadlines and rumours of scarcity of funds have led even the most optimistic citizen to weigh his words carefully when speaking about using the flyover.
This has forced the state government to step in and direct officials to expedite work on this prestigious project so that the latest deadline is not missed.
The Chief Minister, in a recent review meeting with R&B officials, expressed anguish at the delay in works and directed them to complete the flyover at any cost by March, 2018.
After this officials stopped all vehicular movement and speed up construction works. Principal secretary, R&B department Sumitra Dawara along with district collector B. Lakshmikantha inspected the works and started monitoring them on a daily basis.
Meanwhile, locals remain skeptical. “The flurry of activity is a regular sight whenever the Chief Minister gives directions. After a week or so, the pace of work will slacken,” said Karuna Prasad Reddy, a businessman from Vidyadharapuram. He said that the citizens are now used to see these spurts of hectic activity and no one is confident that the flyover will be ready even by 2020.
