Adani Port seeks time till October, 2020
It has also pointed out that though they had sought sanction for 19 quarries, the required sanctions for operations have come only for three.
Thiruvananthapuram: With the deadline for the completion of the first phase of construction of Adani Vizhinjam Private Port Limited (AVPPL) fast approaching on December 4, 2019, Adani has sent a fourth letter to the state government seeking extension of the deadline till October 2020.
It has also pointed out that though they had sought sanction for 19 quarries, the required sanctions for operations have come only for three. If the deadline is not met, the company will have to pay compensation at the rate of Rs 12 lakh for each day of delay. AVPPL chairman and managing director Gautam Adani at the time of the commencement of the project on December 5, 2015, had assured that the first ship will berth at Vizhinjam on September 1, 2018, in a record time of 1,000 days.
However, Adani ports could not keep this promise. If the present pace of the work is an indication, AVPPL will also find it difficult to keep the deadline of completing the first phase of the `7,525-crore project before December 4, 2019.
