Chennai: Wedding lands fake doctor in cops’ net
Uncle exposes groom 4 arrested
CHENNAI: A 32-year-old youth who pretended to be a government doctor, was nabbed by cops at his wedding reception here, as his intoxicated uncle inadvertently spilled the beans about the groom.
Police said the fake doctor Karthik resided in Venkatesan Nagar, Villivakkam. Karthick was often seen wearing a doctor's white overcoat and stethoscope. He was introduced to a family residing in the same area through a common friend.
The family was seeking a suitable match for their girl, and they thought Karthik would be a perfect match.
While doing a background check, Karthik said he was an orphan and had only a few relatives. The girl's family believed his words and went ahead with wedding plans.
On September 10, the marriage was held at a private hall in Chennai. However, during the reception held in the evening, Karthick's uncle who was drunk, spilled the beans about him.
When the girl's family questioned Karthik, he did not give a proper answer.
The family became suspicious and alerted the police.
Madhavaram police rushed to the spot and took the man and his family into custody. On enquiry, it was found that Karthik was a native of Coimbatore, and his relatives who came for the wedding were also fake.
Police said Karthik alias Samsundhar moved to Villivakkam a few months back, and allegedly became close with the family of the girl.
Police registered a case and are enquiring whether he had any such precedence in the past.
Police also arrested two men and two women in connection with the crime.
