HDMA starts free distribution of one lakh clay Ganesh idols
HYDERABAD: Approximately one lakh nine-metre tall eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols will be distributed by HMDA, and GHMC, free of cost on a ward-wise basis for the sixth straight year.
The Ganesh idols were formally unveiled by MA&UD minster K.T. Rama Rao here on Thursday.
According to authorities, this is an attempt by the government to educate people on the importance of being environment-friendly.
Present at the unveiling were minister Gangula Kamalakar, planning board vice-chairman B. Vinod Kumar, MLC Shambipur Raju, HMDA metropolitan commissioner Arvind Kumar, GHMC commissioner Ronald Rose, HMDA’s urban forest director Dr. B. Prabhakar and chief engineer B.L.N Reddy and superintendent engineer Paranjyoti.
The distribution programme, which started in 40 centres on Thursday, will continue till Sunday.
The GHMC commissioner presented a clay Ganesh idol to chief secretary Shanthi Kumari.
