Mysuru: Lakhs witness colourful Dasara cultural procession'

This was not a rehearsal of the world famous Jumbo Savari procession usually held on the tenth day of Dasara.

Mysuru: For the first time, Mysuru will have two different processions during Dasara this year with over a lakh people witnessing the first procession termed   ‘Dasara cultural procession’ held for the first time on the fifth day of Dasara on Sunday afternoon. 

This was not a rehearsal of the world famous Jumbo Savari procession usually held on the tenth day of Dasara but was held on the same lines except for the fact that jumbo Arjuna did not carry the golden howdah housing the idol of Goddess Chamundeswari on Sunday.

Dy CM G. Parameshwar inaugurated the procession at the Balarama gate of Mysuru Palace and was accompanied by District Minister G.T. Devegowda, Tourism Minister Sa Ra Mahesh, BJP MLA Harshavardhan, Mysuru DC Abhiram G Shankar and City Police Commissioner Dr A Subramanyeswar Rao. The procession began from Mysuru Palace at 2.45 and pm reached Bannimantap grounds, by 5.15 pm.

All 10 caparisoned Dasara elephants participated in the procession along with 50 troupes.
