Chennai: Songs now not like those of MGR, says min at Children's Day feat
The song which emphasis the importance of physical and mental growth of children, was from the film Arasilangkumari starring MGR and Padmini.
Chennai: Are the present day Tamil film songs inspirational or philosophical as they used to be during the times of puratchi thalaivar (AIADMK founder M.G. Ramachandran)? Definitely not, says State Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar. The AIADMK senior also took pot shots at Vijay starrer Villu which featured a song and sought to know what the song aims to convey.
The Minister who conveyed his greetings on Children’s Day on Wednesday praised the iconic leader and matinee idol’s songs which always had a message for the masses. “Do we hear songs that inspire courage in children or people now? Pattukottai Kalayana Sundaram (poet and lyricist) penned a song for Puratchi Thalaivar’s (MGR) film. It is matchless,” he said.
He quoted verses from the Chinnappayalae song which goes likes this – Aalum valaranum arivum valaranum adhudhaandaa valarchchi – unnai aasaiyoadu eenra-valukku adhuvae nee tharum magizhchchi- un naramboadudhaan pinni valaranum thanmaana unarchchi thanmaana unarchchi. The song which emphasis the importance of physical and mental growth of children, was from the film Arasilangkumari starring MGR and Padmini.
“See the powerful verses. How it grooms the young minds. Contrastingly, now we have songs like Daddy, Mummy veetil illa thada poda yarum illa vilayaduvoma ula villala,” he said.
The daddy mummu song is from the Vijay starrer Villu. The Minister’s reference to this song may seem casual but given the controversy that Vijay’s latest film Sarkar had raised, and the AIADMK’s spontaneous protest leading to the Sarkar filmmaker dropping the controversial scenes, the party members are unlikely to miss the timing of the Minister’s satire, say sources.
