IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall for Coastal Andhra Pradesh
Visakhapatnam: IMD-Amaravati has forecast heavy rainfall in some parts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, and Srikakulam districts of the north coastal Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
It said an existing low pressure over the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression and move closer to the coast.
“The system is 150 km off Kalingapatnam in Srikakulam district. Some parts of the Chittoor, Tirupati and Nellore districts experienced light to moderate rainfall on Tuesday,” it said.
The department said parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh and many parts of Rayalaseema would receive light to moderate rainfall on Wednesday. It forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning in some more parts of the same region the same period.
The second low-pressure area is over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining Andaman and Nicobar Islands, while the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to the upper tropospheric level persists. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal on Wednesday.
“The weather is expected to move in the northwest direction and intensify into a deep depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal off the AP coast on November 16. Subsequently, the weather system was forecast to recurve in the northeast direction to reach the northwest Bay of Bengal off the Odisha coast on November 17.
