Visakhapatnam: The 56th National Library Week celebrations started at the District Central Library here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, district education officer (DEO) L. Chandrakala said all kinds of books are available in various libraries.

“But we are failing in using them and improving our knowledge. Every student must visit libraries at least once a week. This will make them citizens who are well aware and knowledgeable,” the DEO remarked.

District Central Library secretary R.C.H. Venkata Rao said every year, National Library Week is celebrated from November 14 to November 20 across the country to explain the importance of the library for the next generations.

Coinciding with the celebrations, there will be book exhibitions and essay writing competitions on November 15. On November 16, there will be elocution contests and library activists will be honoured. Poetry day and seminars will be held on November 17. On November 18, there will be games and song contests for school students.
