Hyderabad HC nod to act on Michael Ferreira's alleged fraud

While allowing the police to investigate the case, the judge said the stay on the arrest will continue.

Hyderabad: The HC on Wednesday allowed the Telangana police to go ahead with its investigation into cases pending against former billiards champion Michael Ferreira and his associates in the Rs 400 crore fraud involving QNet.

Justice Raja Elango was modifying an order granted on November 4 which had stayed the criminal case against Ferreira and his associates Malcolm N. Desai, Michael Joseph Ferreira, Srinivasa Rao Vanka, Magaral V. Balaji, and Nozer K. Desai.

The court had also stayed the arrest of Michael Ferreira H. Venugopal, counsel for TS home department, while urging the court to vacate the stay order, submitted that there were 14 cases pending against the petitioners in the state, and custodial interrogation is required to unearth the scam. While allowing the police to investigate the case, the judge said the stay on the arrest will continue.
