Jakkampudi Township in state of Confusion
The Collector also spoke of hills that surrounded the place.
Vijayawada: The promise made by the Chief Minister Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu on 14th April 2016, to construct housing for the public has not materialised so far. Jakkampudi township project has been dragging because of several reasons. In the Chief Minister's meeting itself, the Collector had expressed that 237 acres of land was ready for the Economic City. The Collector also spoke of hills that surrounded the place. The Chief Minister then ordered the removal of those hills.
The project has been handed over to Housing Department. They have called for applications through an online method. So many people have applied for a house. Again, the plan changed and project was diverted to Vijayawada Municipal Corporation. The government has suggested to VMC to take a loan.
Now, the TD leaders have entered the scene and asked municipal authorities to receive applications through their reference only. MLAs and MPs have recommended nearly 12,000 of their own people.
The government has now proposed to set up industries in the new township and provide housing for the employees who work there. Overall, the Jakkampudi Township, which was meant for housing and industries, has changed its files and names and proposals creating confusion for the officials.
