Belagavi: Why should MLAs not hoist flag on I-Day?
Legislator raises issue in Assembly, says bureaucrats and ministers are given the chance.
Belagavi: While the Prime Minister hoists the national flag at Red Fort in Delhi and Chief Ministers hoist the flag in their respective state capitals on Independence and Republic Days, why are MLAs not permitted to do the same?
Gurumitkal MLA, Naganagouda, who asked the question in the legislative assembly on Friday, pointed out that even the district in- charge ministers were allowed to hoist the national flag on these occasions at the district headquarters while the local MLAs merely looked on as chief guests. The tahashildars too got the opportunity, but they did not, he observed, demanding, " Why are MLAs not given the opportunity to hoist the national flag?"
In response, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy explained the state was merely following rules framed by the Centre, but promised to look into them and if possible, amend the procedure.
Sorab MLA, Kumar Bangarappa raised the issue of ragi being sold for Re 1 per kg, rice for Rs 10 a kg and even oil and other supplies being sold at unbelievably low prices to government-run hostels during zero hour.
Noting that a bidder for a tender floated for eight districts, including Shivamogga, who had quoted these low prices, had been chosen by the government to provide these supplies, he asked how it intended to ensure their quality.
