Hyderabad:  Decentralising development in Telangana state will be one of the priority areas for the Congress government, Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said on Friday. To this end, the state government will divide the state into three zones.

In her address to the joint session of the Legislative Council and Assembly on Friday, the Governor said one of the three zones will be Hyderabad City covering the area inside the Outer Ring Road (ORR). The second will be the region between the ORR and the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR), while the third zone will be the rest of the area outside of the RRR.

She said Hyderabad was not only the capital of Telangana state but also a perennial revenue source generating income for welfare and development of poorer sections of society. This financial strength was a result of the previous Congress-led governments which developed Hyderabad, be it on the information technology front or by building the Metro Rail, Shamshabad International Airport, and the ORR.

“The world-class infrastructure was planned and developed during the Congress governments. Hyderabad’s topography would have undergone a sea change, had the ITIR project announced by the then UPA government in 2013 come into being,” she said, adding the new government is trying to bring back that past glory and develop the city in all directions.

She also said an action plan has been launched to clean up the Musi River and turn its catchment area into an employment generation zone.
