JNU row: Protest in Bengaluru this week
The Karnataka chapters of the All India Students Association and the Students Federation of India are also planning protests.
Bengaluru: Students and faculty members from prominent institutes across Bengaluru will come together for a demonstration later this week in support of protesting students at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi and also to mark one month of Dalit student Rohit Vemula’s suicide at the University of Hyderabad, which sparked widespread protests across the country for allegedly being a case of discrimination against Dalits.
“We will have confirmations from institutes across Bengaluru and send out an official statement by Tuesday afternoon,” a source from the Indiana Institute of Science, who is taking part in the student protest in Delhi, told Deccan Chronicle.
“We do want to look at the fact that institutions are being infiltrated by the RSS and we want to ensure that there will always be room for dissent and diversity,” he said.
The Karnataka chapters of the All India Students Association and the Students Federation of India are also planning protests against Vemula’s death and the incident in JNU.
“It will take place either at Anand Rao Circle or Mysore Bank Circle,” said Mr Shankar, Joint Secretary, AISA Karnataka. The local chapter of the Students Federation of India will also hold a demonstration of its own on Wednesday.
