Gold reward for waste goes up

Hyderabad: The number of gifts in the form of gold being offered to Gudimalkapur residents for segregating waste has increased from 10 to 40. A local TRS corporator had previously announced a reward of one gram of gold each for those separating their garbage.

Speaking to the newspaper, TRS corporator Bangari Prakash said all what residents have to do is make use of the twin bins, segregate the waste and keep their surroundings clean to qualify for the lucky draw contest which will be held on February 17.

As part of the TRS government’s ambitious Swachh Survey, the elected representative has been visiting households within the Gudimalkapur division to keep a check on hygiene.

Over 60 households will be marked for maintaining proper hygiene and for following garbage segregation. A total of 40 out of the 60 residents will be then become eligible to win gold — either in the form of a coin or an ornament.

Another 10 households will be rewarded with 10 grams of silver. “I will be bearing all the expenses and the cost of the rewards will work out to around Rs 1.5 lakh. The selection of the 40 candidates will be through a lucky draw, which will be held on February 17,” Mr Bangari Prakash said.

Guddimalkapur, has a population of 1,00,000, and there are a total of 25,000 households. It consists of a mixed-developed colonies and urban slums. The city’s corporators have been touring divisions for high ranks in the hygiene survey.
