Lawyer volunteers to argue for Rohith's kin's caste case
The Dalit organisations have criticised the government for issuing a show cause notice to the Rohith family.
Guntur: Social activist and famous lawyer Y. Koteswara Rao has volunteered to challenge the Guntur district administration’s attempts to cancel the SC certificates issued to the Rohith Vemula family. The Dalit organisations have criticised the government for issuing a show cause notice to the Rohith family.
He claimed that the Guntur district officials had issued SC caste certificates to the Rohith family after a thorough inquiry. “So those certificates were obtained legally and not in a fraudulent manner.”
The lawyer said that he is going to file a case against the district officials, challenging its decision to cancel the SC status of the Rohith family. According to the norms. he said, when a mother, who is living separately from her husband, takes the responsibility of her children, her children will acquire the caste of their mother.”
Citing this, Mr Rao said that Rohith’s mother Radhika had taken the responsibility of raising her two sons and one daughter, who were neglected by their father.
He said that there is no legality to the appointment of the District Level Scrutiny Commi-ttee to probe an inquiry. He added that he had given some suggestions to the Rohith family members and would challenge the show cause notice shortly.
