Nehru College stir ends as Krishnadas goes out
The collector hoped that the management will take steps to restore the credibility of the college.
Thrissur: The students of the Pampady Nehru Engineering College withdrew their 40-day-old agitation following the talks held at the district collectorate hereon Wednesday. The classes will commence from Friday.
The students had been agitating demanding to book the guilty involved in the suicide of Jishnu Pranoy, first-year computer science student, in the college hostel on January 6.
The management has agreed to remove Mr P. Krishnadas, chairman of the Nehru Group of Institutions, from the responsibility of engineering and pharmacy colleges at Pampady and entrust it to Mr Krishnakumar, a director of the group.
The representatives of the college management, students, district collector A. Kowsigan, rural SP N. Vijayakumar and U.R. Pradeep Kumar MLA participated in the discussions. As per the agreement, all the protests outside the college will be called off and the temporary structures set up as part of the agitation would be removed.
The accused in the death of Jishnu will be arrested as early as possible. Nehru group chairman Krishnadas, college vice-principal, PRO and two others facing charges of abetment of suicide are absconding. The issues in the college will be handled by a committee comprising the ADM, DySP, PTA members and representatives of students.
The PTA of the engineering college will be held on February 22 and pharmacy college on February 23. A grievance cell to address the complaints will also be formed immediately. The issues connected with internal marks, examinations and attendance of the students in the wake of the class losses will be resolved in consultation with the Kerala Technological University.
The collector hoped that the management will take steps to restore the credibility of the college. The ADM will supervise the implementation of the decisions reached at the meeting.
