Bengaluru: The toll in the building collapse at Kasavanahalli could have been far worse if it had been more occupied. Going by locals, commercial establishments occupying a portion of the incomplete  building , were recently evicted to allow
renovation.

"The building was built in 2009-10. But after that the property went into litigation. However, some commercial establishments continued to run from the unfinished structure," said a local resident, pointing out, that were these establishments still functioning from here ,  the toll in the accident would have been much higher. "A huge tragedy has been averted," he said.

The locals claimed low quality material was used to construct the building and the recent rain had worsened its weak structure, leading to the mishap. "If not today, it would have collapsed one day," they added.
