GUNTUR: The Government General Hospital (GGH) in Hyderabad is in the news again for non-functional LED lights in the operation theatre. Some doctors here had leaked videos of surgeries being conducted in mobile flash lights. Minister for Health K Srinivas became angry over surgeries conducted in mobile flash light and ordered the Directorate of Medical Education to conduct an inquiry and submit a report.

LED lights are a necessity in the operation theatre for viewing precisely while conducting surgeries. In olden days, doctors used kerosene lights commonly known then as Petromax lamps and torches at the operation theatres, during emergency, due to absence of electric lights. Majority of the hospitals now make use of ultra modern lighting, generators and automatic power backups for continuous lighting in operation theatres. But recently, many operation theatres are facing trouble with frequent non-working LED lights in operation theatres. Hence, Rs 20 lakh fund was sanctioned for improving the amenities but still improper LED lights are a trouble for doctors. Sometimes only one among four LED lights function in the operation theatre.
