Bengaluru: A father's tears for a son... The dastardly terror attack on the Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) in J&K on Thursday, claimed the life of Constable (GD) H. Guru (32) from Mandya along with 48 others, breaking the heart of the young soldier's parents and his wife of ten months.

The oldest of three sons of villagers, Honnaiah, and Chikkolamma, Guru was married to Kalavathi, his maternal uncle's 20-year- old daughter only 10 months ago. "He had come home on leave for a week and had returned to duty, to his posting in Jammu on February 11. But he has now left us once and for all and didn't even live with us in the new home we built a year ago, just before his marriage," cried his father, Honnaiah.

"Guru was a very soft-spoken and sensitive man," said his friend and batchmate, C.T. (GD) Prasanna. The family heard about the tragic news on Thursday evening. "He had taken a bank loan for constructing a house for his aged parents. He is survived by his parents, wife and two younger brothers," he said.

Guru's body has been identified and it is expected to arrive at the Kempegowda International Airport on Saturday. From Bengaluru, the remains will be brought to his village Gudigere in Maddur taluk in Mandya district. Guru had joined the CRPF in February 2011 and had undergone training at the centre in Taralu in Bengaluru. On completion of training, he was posted to Jharkhand. He was posted to J&K in February last year.
