Kannur University course keen about overseas prospects
Plan to offer students placements in Germany and other European nations.
KANNUR: When Kannur University relaunched its Wood Science course as an industry-linked programme last year, it has become the first and only university in India to offer such a programme where along with their study the students get salary and industrial experience. Now the University is planning to offer the students of the course placements in Germany and other European countries by engaging in tie-ups with the wood industry firms there.
Speaking to DC, Kannur University Vice Chancellor Dr M.K Abdul Khader said that the University will provide placement to successful and willing candidates in German and other European companies working in wood industry. “Our aim is to give cent percent placement for our students. Our industrial- partner has a wide network in European and American countries and this will help us to find appropriate placements for our students,” he said.
The course, which teaches about wood material science, wood components and wood based products, is conducted in collaboration with the Western India Plywoods Ltd. (WIP) - one of the biggest names in the industry.
The course will enable the students to earn a monthly salary of Rs 5000, along with the studies. The course is restructured in such a way that out of two year course duration, 50 percent of the classes would be industry-based where the students can get field experience from the WIP factories.
