Chennai: A private member bill on preventing honour killing submitted by CPI (M) legislative party leader A. Soundararajan to the state assembly secretariat in September last year was summarily rejected without ascertaining any reasons.

Soudararajan told DC that he had submitted “The Prevention of Crimes in the Name  of ‘Honour’ and Tradition Bill 2015” to the Assembly secretariat on September 29 last year as a private member bill. “The bill was initially kept under the review of the secretariat,” he said.

After a week, he said that he had got a letter from the Assembly secretariat saying that the bill was rejected. “Without citing any reason, the letter said the bill was rejected. If there is any lacunae in the bill, they should have asked me to correct it. But in an undemocratic way the bill was rejected summarily without citing any reason,” he said.
