Hyderabad ranks 8th in most governed cities

Score of city is an indication of the strength of the governance system and therefore its ability to deliver quality of life in a long-term.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad stands in the eighth position when the list of most governed cities are taken and is equipped to deliver urban reforms, according to an All-India survey conducted by Janaagraha Centre for Citizens and Democracy, a Bengaluru based non-profit organisation. Over 23 urban cities across the 20 states were surveyed in 2017.

Janaagraha conducts Annual Surveys on India’s City Systems (ASICS) every year. According to ASICS, score of a city is an indication of the strength of the governance system and therefore its ability to deliver quality of life in a long-term.

The study evaluated the quality of governance in India across 20 states. These cities scored between 3.0 and 5.1 on 10, with Pune topping the chart in the overall ranking with a score of 5.1. 

Compared to previous years, Hyderabad has improved in the quality of governance, as the score jumped by 0.4 points from 3.9 in 2016 to 4.3 in 2017. 
Among the south Indian cities, Bengaluru and Chennai are positioned in the bottom five with 23rd and 19th ranks respectively with scores in the range of 3.0 to 3.3.

“GHMC is improving its ability to deliver better governance,” GHMC commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said.
