Kozhikode: Infant treated roughly by nurse undergoes surgery
Anagha complained that the swelling and inflammation on the baby's leg continued and they consulted a pediatrician.
KOZHIKODE: Parents of an infant from Madappally have complained to the district medical officer, child protection office as well as Childline that their child had to undergo a surgery following rough treatment by a nurse at a primary health centre in Madappally, when she gave a pentavalent vaccine on the left leg of the baby on the fifth day after birth.
Dhwani, the baby of Anagha and Devi Prasad, was administered a vaccine on February 27 and the nurse allegedly held the leg rigidly, when the baby cried. Anagha complained that the swelling and inflammation on the baby’s leg continued and they consulted a pediatrician on March 4. The condition worsened, and they again took the baby to Vadakara Government hospital the next day.
A minor surgery had to be performed on the baby’s leg on March 11 at Government medical college hospital. The baby’s parents complain that no action was taken against the nurse even after the doctors admitted that because of the nurse’s mistake, the inflammation developed. They also alleged that there were similar complaints against the same nurse from their locality earlier.
