KURNOOL: YSRC MP Vijaya Sai Reddy said Ragipindi Sudhakar Reddy, the main accused in the murder of Y.S. Raja Reddy, was behind the murder of his son Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy.

Sudhakar Reddy was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Raja Reddy and was relesaed after 11 years of imprisonment three years ago.

The fingerprints collected at the scene of the Vivekananda Reddy’s murder matched with those in the police data bank, said Kadapa superintendent of police Rahul Dev Sharma. Though he did not mention the name of Sudhakar Reddy, family members allege that he had enmity with the family of Raja Reddy.

The fatal bomb attack on Raja Reddy in 1998 was allegedly masterminded by the faction headed by Umamaheswara Reddy, the brother of Pulivendla marketing committee chairman Parthasarathy Reddy, an arch rival of the YS group in the district.

The enmity between Raja Reddy and his rivals was largely over the control of Pulivendula. When Raja Reddy and his son Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy were in the Congress, their rivals chose the Telugu Desam which was then in power.

The accused in the Raja Reddy murder case were Perla Somasekhara Reddy, Perla Sesha Reddy, Perla Ramajaneya Reddy, Perla Ramakrishna Reddy, Annareddy Sambasiva Reddy, Annareddy Srinivasa Reddy, Annareddy Dasireddigari Lakshmi Reddy, Palle Venkatarami Reddy, Vaddarapu Obaiah, Ragipindi Sudhakar Reddy and Poreddy Viswanatha Reddy.

Two accused died during the course of trial. In 2004, first additional sessions judge of Kadapa acquitted all the accused for want of evidence. The Congress government, which came to power the same year, challenged the trial court’s order in the High Court.

Three of the accused were acquitted for want of evidence while two more died during the course of trial.
