Delhi: Odd-even kicks off with 1,300 challans
The first challan of the day was issued at ITO intersection in central Delhi at around 9 am.
New Delhi: Over 1,300 persons were penalised for violating the odd-even car rationing on the first day of its second phase’s implementation in the national capital on Friday.
While 884 motorists were punished by Delhi Traffic Police, challans to as many as 427 persons were issued by the enforcement unit of Delhi Transport department, taking the total figure to 1,311, senior officials said.
Under the fortnight-long scheme, private cars having odd registration numbers can ply only on odd dates and the even numbers on even dates, subjected to a set of exemptions. The rules under the scheme are applicable between 8 am and 8 pm, except on Sundays.
The highest number of challans was recorded in the southern part of the city, followed by west and central Delhi. Around a hundred persons were challaned in the Lutyens’ zone, officials said. The first challan of the day was issued at ITO intersection in central Delhi at around 9 am.
