Wedlock across barriers: Some can't bear it
Row after Vokkaliga girl decides to marry Muslim.
Mysuru: The issue of ‘Love Jihad’ continues to rock Mysuru and Mandya with protests for and against the inter-religious marriage scheduled to be held in Mysuru on Sunday, drawing a lot of attention. Ashitha, a Vokkaliga community girl is all set to marry Shakeel, a Muslim. Families of both the boy and girl are said to be friends for a long time and were neighbours earlier. They are happy with the wedding with the boy and girl said to be classmates from PUC after which they did their MBA.
The dissenting voices have come from pro-Hindu activists who wanted to take out a bike rally against the marriage on Friday but were stopped and arrested. They claimed that they were not against the inter-community marriage but were only against conversion. Later in the day, at KR Pet, pro-Hindu activists staged a protest and held a rasta roko condemning the arrest of pro-Hindu activists in Mandya opposing the marriage. On the other hand Janavadi Sangha, Vokkaliga Sangha and others staged protests in support of the wedding. Meanwhile, another Hindu girl, Roopa D.C. and Jafrulla Khan have filed an application on April 6 to get married at the sub-registrar’s office in Maddur.
