Chennai: Saree cradle turns noose for 8-year-old

Chennai: In a shocking incident in Chennai, a Class 3 boy died after a cradle made of saree turned into a noose, in T. Nagar on Saturday. The victim was identified as M. Jagan (8), son of Murugan who was studying in a private school. Murugan who works for a private firm resides in T. Nagar.

According to the police, the incident happened, on Saturday, when Murugan had gone to work and his mother Shakthi had gone to a nearby shop to buy home needs. “When she returned home, she found Jagan hanging unconscious from the saree that was made as a cradle (hammock) for his sister Yashika,” the police said.

The terrified grandmother released Jagan from the saree and rushed him to a nearby private hospital. However, the doctors declared him brought dead. 

The boy’s body was sent to Omandurar Government multi-specialty hospital for autopsy, the police said.

“Since the cradle was tied high above the floor, Jagan would have tried to reach it and unfortunately got tangled in the saree,” the police said. Teynampet police registered a case and are investigating.
