Dialysis centre in Khammam boon for poor patients
Patients from remote villages also avail dialysis at the centres.
Khammam: For poor patients suffering from kidney ailments in Khammam and Kothagudem Bhadradri districts, the dialysis centre, which opened in November 2015 in the district headquarters in Khammam, is a blessing.
The centre has 16 super-speciality machines working in four shifts. On a daily basis, 48 patients undergo dialysis. Sometimes the number of patients undergoing dialysis touches even 64 daily. In a month about 1,300 patients undergo dialysis at the centre. There is no waiting period for patients due to the availability of the machines.
Patients from remote villages also avail dialysis at the centres. Patients can know the date of their dialysis 10 days prior.
Private hospitals charge Rs 1,250 to Rs 2,000 for each dialysis session putting a huge financial burden on families of kidney patients.
According to reports the centre has helped patients save about Rs 6 crore in the last three years. In addition, patients having Arogyasri cards can avail the services free of cost. The centre has crossed the 50,000 mark in the last three years.
In 2016 dialysis was done 15,354 times, 15,672 in 2017 followed by 15,932 times in 2018. In the last three and a half months dialysis has been done 3,800 times.
