PU results out: Rural schools fare better

Bengaluru: In all, 61.73 per cent of students who appeared for the second pre-university examinations passed this year. This is an improvement of 2.15% in the results that were announced on Monday. Girls continued to perform better with a pass percentage of 68.24% as against boys’ 62.88%. In all, 3,33,985 girls appeared for exams, while 2,27,897 cleared it. For boys, 3,37,668 appeared and 1,86,690 passed. A total of 2,82,124 students secured 60% and above, 52,106 students second class and 80,157 students third class. Eighty colleges, including 15 government-run schools, have secured 100 pass percentage.
In 98 colleges, none of the students cleared the exams. But there has been an improvement on this front, as 118 colleges in 2018 and 132 in 2017 had no passes.
Udupi district topped the list with a pass percentage of 92.20%, followed by Dakshina Kannada at 90.91%. Bengaluru South stood in the eighth place, lower than Bagalkote district, while Bengaluru Rural is at tenth place. Bengaluru North secured the eleventh spot. The pass percentage in commerce is 66.39, science 66.58 and arts 50.53.
PU officials said this year, they managed to announce the results 15 days earlier as the evaluators were made to enter the marks secured by the students directly onto the software which could be accessed by the department. This not only helped in reducing the time consumed for coding and tabulation, but also minimised errors.
Unaided colleges secure top places
Unaided colleges performed well with an overall pass percentage of 68.69 as against 67.96 in 2018. Government PU college have shown improvement of 2%, with a pass percentage of 50.94.
