55 buses damaged in Tamil Nadu

According to the police, protests were held in 22 different places across the state and 78 people were detained.

Chennai: At least 55 state run buses, including 18 in Chennai, were allegedly damaged by protesting transport workers in Tamil Nadu on Monday during the state wide transport strike. 

Around 78 people were detained across the state. Miscreants pelted stones at buses plying in Anna Nagar, Otteri, Chromepet, MMDA, Washermenpet and Thirumangalam. According to the police, protests were held in 22 different places across the state and 78 people were detained, however, they were released later in the evening.

As many as 15,000 police personnel were deployed in the city and 90,000 personnel were deployed across the state at railway stations, bus depots and bus terminals to ensure no untoward incidents took place.
