Kochi: Former Ernakulam Rural Superintendent A.V. George was interrogated by the Special Investigative Team yet again on Tuesday in the Varappuzha custodial death case. A team headed by S Sreejith, Inspector General of Police, collected George’s statement at the ‘Safe House’ near the Ernakulam central police station, in a session that lasted about four and half hours. The investigators had earlier subjected Mr. George to interrogation on at least two occasions.

However, according to sources, the Crime Branch team would not rush into arraigning the senior cop as an accused in the case. “We’re collecting evidence as the probe is still on. Any decision on arraigning him as an accused will be taken only later after assessing all the evidences,” they said. George is currently placed under suspension after the SIT report cited lapses from the part of the rural police in taking S.R. Sreejith, the victim into custody, and about the “illegal” functioning of Rural Tiger Force (RTF) formed by George.
