Bengaluru: Over 300 Bescom men in Bhubaneswar for power restoration work

Bengaluru: Over 300 men from Bescom have reached Bhubaneswar in Odisha for helping with the power supply restoration work after the state was hit by the recent Cyclone Fani. Around 1,000 men from Bescom and Discoms will be travelling to the cyclone affected state.

On Monday, around 300 personnel, including linemen, powermen, engineers and assistants, left for Bhubaneswar for the restoration work with the help of Odisha government. The work of repairing of transformers, feeders, erecting electric poles and many more, has already begun.

A senior Bescom officer said that they received a request letter from the Odisha government seeking assistance from southern states to restore the power supply. “We were asked to make a list of people who can be sent to work in the cyclone-hit city. We prepared a list of over 300 people and sent them. Next week, we will send the second batch of personnel as we have been told that most part of the city and state have no power supply. They need more personnel to carry out work without delays,” he added.

“Already, KPTCL and other Discoms in the state have been asked to prepare a list of their personnel who can be sent to carry out the work. We are planning to send more than 1,000 personnel from Bescom and other Discoms,” the officer said.

Another officer said that the condition in Bhubaneswar is bad and around two lakh electric poles have been uprooted and hundreds of transformers have failed. “It will take at least 20 days to complete the work and we are providing all support to ensure that the power supply is restored,” the officer said.
