Hyderabad: Bid to curb misuse of income certificates
State government has noticed that several irregularities have been taking place in the issuance of the income certificates by the Tahasildars.
Hyderabad: To keep a check on and curb irregularities in the issuance of income certificates, the state government has decided to create a database of all the departments under the name, “Integrated Data of Departments in Telangana.”
The state government has been extending the benefits of various schemes including Kalyan Lakshmi, Shaadi Mubarak, Merit scholarships and also eligibility for state and central government jobs based on the income certificates issued by the Tahasildar office.
The state government has noticed that several irregularities have been taking place in the issuance of the income certificates by the Tahasildars. Even persons and families who exceeded the income prescribed for the schemes were also drawing the benefit with the help of income certificates issued by the Tahasildars based on the inputs furnished by the field-level officers in the villages.
According to officials, keeping in view the misuse of the income certificates, the government has decided to create the integrated data with the coordination of all the departments particularly Registration, Road Transport Authority and Municipal Corporations and Municipalities wherein persons furnish their PAN card details to remit the stamp duties, road tax of vehicles and property taxes respectively.
As off now, the government has fixed the income limit of Rs 2 lakh per year for BPL families living in urban areas and Rs 1.5 lakh for the BPL families living in villages and Rs 8 lakhs per year for the Economically Backward Classes and Economically Weaker Sections.
The authorities pointed out that the Income Tax department had already secured the income details of a majority of citizens of the state and with the support of the IT department they were able to secure information and would furnish it to the Tahasildars across the state so that they could cross check with the information furnished by the field level officers before issuing the income certificates.
The authorities said that the chief secretary was likely to issue the guidelines in the coming week with regard to the issuance of income certificates with the help of the integrated data of departments in Telangana state.
