Domestic deaths on rise in Hyderabad, say cops
Home injury would also include cases of a snake bite, death due to wall collapse or accidental consumption of unknown poisons.
Hyderabad: Senior police officials say that deaths due to domestic causes are on the rise. In case of men, death could be because of suicide or an accidental fall in the house.
In the case of women, often suicide by hanging or by consuming poison or by setting oneself on fire is linked to harassment from husband or in-laws.
The police says that though there is no specific data related to deaths due to domestic accidents not related to suicide, women are more prone to home injuries, as they are the ones who do most of the work at home.
Yet, the accidents are not just confined only to the kitchen as is the general notion.
Home injury would also include cases of a snake bite, death due to wall collapse or accidental consumption of unknown poisons.
Death due to an injury is a major cause in case of men working at construction sites, the police said. Falling off heights is a common cause too.
Working under the influence of alcohol, thereby leading to an accident is another cause applying mainly to men. Fewer women fall in this category of accidental deaths. A senior woman police officer in the city said that domestic deaths of women due to unintentional injuries, were comparatively lesser.
The women’s families blamed in-laws and allege that the death due to injury was very much intentional. But in the case of males, usually there are no such allegations. “However, irrespective of the reason, the case is thoroughly investigated to establish the actual cause of death,” she said.
