600 vehicles seized, 3,500 arrested in four days: Chennai police
A.K. Viswanathan said that the police had searched more than 16,000 vehicles at 150 spots in the city.
Chennai: The city police detained as many as 449 persons on suspicion on the fourth day of storming operation, on Thursday night. City police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan oversaw the vehicle checks at various spots of the city.
“During the storming operation on Thursday night, 449 persons were detained on suspicion, while 6 accused were slapped with non-bailable warrants and arrested,” a police statement said.
A.K. Viswanathan said that the police had searched more than 16,000 vehicles at 150 spots in the city. “As many as 2,000 personnel are engaged in the operation every day.
Nearly 600 vehicles without proper documents were seized and nearly 3,500 persons were arrested. The operation will continue for further 15 days,” he added. Meanwhile, 12 absconding accused were arrested. 32 persons were arrested under 109 and 110 sections of CrPC.
“During the operation, 44 persons were held for drunken driving,” the statement added. The police also had arrested 10 ‘rowdies' during the operation. It may be recalled that the city police had detained 3,027 persons including 1,125 history-sheeters on Monday night. The police have intensified the night patrol and vehicle checks by forming crime prevention team to ensure nightlong patrolling.
