Chennai: The humane gesture of the city police helping a 72-year-old man see and embrace his 11-year-old grandson for the first time was lauded by the blissful septuagenarian. City police commissioner A.K. Viswanathan also appreciated the St Thomas Mount zone for their gesture.
“The police are not only good at enforcing law and order they have also shown their brilliance in solving the social and emotional issue of the public,” Sathiyaseelan (72) of Choolaimedu complimented the city police in a message he posted on his Facebook wall.
Sathiyaseelan’s son was married to a woman who is also their relative in 2006 and have a son, who is 11-year-old now. The marriage was dissolved soon after by the court of law and they got married again to different persons. “As the woman was living with his son abroad, Sathiyaseelan never got a chance to meet his grandson except for the time when he was born,” M.S. Muthusamy, Deputy Commissioner (St. Thomas Mount) told DC.
The elderly man, who had been longing for another tryst with his grandson, came to know that his ‘former’ daughter-in-law and grandson had returned to Chitlapakkam and he repeatedly tried to meet his grandson. As the mother did not let him meet her son, Sathiyaseelan approached A.K. Viswanathan to help him. Although police have nothing to do with the issue, Viswanat-han implored Muthusamy to try to help Sathiyaseelan. Muthusamy, in turn, sought the help of Chitlapakkam inspector Ramesh to meet the mother and make a request to her.
The police had visited the mother several times and finally, she acceded to the request. The meeting was arranged in Chitlapakkam police station on Thursday evening. “Sathiyaseelan and his wife had spent 25 minutes with their grandson. Although the boy was seeing them for the first time, he was also very cooperative. Our commissioner also appreciated us,” Muthusamy said.
