Action for not taking care of parents
WC gets complaints from four women living in misery.
Kochi: The State Women’s Commission has taken action for not taking care of aged parents or senior citizens in family. During a mega adalat held at district collectorate on Saturday, the Commission received complaints from four women who are living in misery as their children took away their properties and not taking care of them.
The Commission has instructed the person who snatched property of his 92-year-old relative to remit `6 lakhs as compensation during the next adalat. The amount has to be deposited in the bank in her name, the Commission instructed.
In another grievance, son of a 90-year-old mother has been asked to take care of the woman, who is currently lodged at a poorly maintained old-age home. The octogenarian is getting `28,000 as monthly pension. The Commission will also conduct an inquiry into the condition of inmates at the old-age home.
The adalat also received two cases of domestic violence. A complainant approac-hed the commission alleging that she is facing dowry abuse though 117 sovereigns of gold and `23 lakhs were given as dowry. Based on the complaint, her husband, an officer in Air India, will be summoned to the Commission’s head office in Thiruvana-nthapuram.
In another case, a woman complained that she has been facing domestic violence in the name of dowry. She also submitted complaint against her husband for forcefully aborting pregnancy. The husband was asked to be present during the next sitting.
The Commission also received two cases against abuse at workplace in which report have been sought.
Of the 88 grievances, 19 were settled while seven cases were referred for police inquiry. A total of 62 cases have been postponed to next sitting.
