High waves to lash Kerala’s coast

High waves in the range of 3 to 3.9 metres are likely off the coast from Vizhinjam to Kasargod.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has forecast high waves at a level of 2.5 to 3.6 metres till 11.30 p.m. on Sunday along the coast from Pozhiyoor to Kasargod. The low-lying areas may experience surges intermittently, especially during high tide between 7 a.m. to10 a.m. and 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

High waves in the range of 3 to 3.9 metres are likely off the coast from Vizhinjam to Kasargod.

High waves in the range of 3 to 4 metres are likely along the coast of Lakshadweep islands from Minicoy to Bitra. The low-lying areas may experience surges, especially at high tide between 7 a.m. and  12 noon and 6 p.m. and 11 p.m.

The India Meteorolo-gical Department has warned of strong winds from westerly direction with speed reaching 35 to 45 km  per hour along and off Kerala coast. The sea condition will be moderate to rough.

 Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea. Rain and thundershowers are likely to occur at most places in Kerala and at a few places in Laksha-dweep till June 18. Heavy rainfall of  7 to  11 cm in 24 hours is likely at one or two places in Kerala on June  18 and June 19.

Rain occurred at most places in Kerala and Lakshadweep on Friday. The chief amounts of rainfall reports in cm are: Mahe (Puducherry UT) 6, Kozhikode 5, Vellanikkara (Thrissur district) and Vythiri (Wayanad district) 4 each, Kannur, Konni (Pathanamthitta district), Chengannur (Alap-puzha district), Kanjira-ppally (Kottayam district), Enamackel and Kodungallur (both in Thrissur district), Mann-arkad and Thrithala (both in Palakkad district), Kudulu (Kasaragod district) 3 each, CIAL Kochi, Aluva, Perumb-avur & Piravom (all in Ernakulam district), Kar-ipur airport and Manjeri (both in Malappuram district), Minicoy (Laksha-dweep), Kottayam, Var-kala (Thiruvananthapu-ram district), Kollam, Cherthala & Kayamku-lam (both in Alappuzha district), Thodupuzha (Idukki district), Irinjala-kuda (Thrissur district), Ottappalam and Patt-ambi (both in Palakkad district), Quilandy (Kozh-ikode district), Thalass-ery (Kannur district), Hosdurg (Kasaragode district) 2 each and Amini (Lakshadweep), Punalur (Kollam district), Kochi airport (Ern-akulam district) and Ernakulam south , Nedumangad (Thiruva-nanthapuram district), Haripad and Mavelik-kara (both in Alappuzha district), Vaikom (Kotta-yam district), Idukki,  Munnar and Myladump-ara (both in Idukki district), Chalakudy (Thriss-ur district), Nilambur and Ponnani (both in Malappuram district), Vadakara (Kozhikode district), Ambalavayal, Kup-pady and Mananthavady (all in Wayanad district) and Irikkur (Kannur district) 1 each.
