Telangana government to appeal against lesser sentence too

Hyderabad: The state government has directed public prosecutor C. Pratap Reddy to file appeals in the High Court against the acquittal of the prime accused and reduced sentences to the other accused in MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi attack case.

After a prolonged trial, the sessions court had on June 28 acquitted main accused Mohd bin Omer Yafai alias Mohd. Pahelwan stating that the prosecution failed to establish his involvement in the attack on Mr Owaisi in 2011.

The court acquitted several others: Younus bin Omer Yafai, Esa bin Younus Yafai, Yahiya bin Younus Yafai, Faisal bin Ahmed Yafai, Fazal bin Ahmed Yafai, Mohd. Bhadur Ali Khan, who were arraigned as Accused No. 6 to 11; and Afif bin Younus Yafai (A13) Saif bin Hussain Yafai (A14); and Mohd. Ameruddin (A15).

The government also preferred an appeal to challenge the lesser sentence awarded by the court to the four persons convicted in the offence Hassan bin Omer Yafai (A2); Abdullah bin Younus Yafai (A3); Awad Bin Younus Yafai (A4) and Mohammed bin Saleh Wahlan (A12).
