1 killed, 4 hurt in serial accident on Magadi Road

Bengaluru: A 25-year-old man was killed, while four others were injured in a serial accident after a sand-laden lorry hit a tipper lorry and three other vehicles near Kottigepalya bus stop on Magadi Road in Kamakashipalya traffic police limits on Monday morning.
The deceased, Shivakumar, hailed from Mandya. The injured have been identified as Prasanna B.V., 38, a resident of Laggere, Hanumantharaju, 30, the driver of Tata Ace vehicle, and Kumar, 27, who was travelling in the Tate Ace vehicle.
According to the police, Prasanna had purchased sand at Gollarahalli and was heading home in the lorry to unload the sand. Around 9.20 am, the lorry was passing near Kottigepalya bus stop and the driver lost control and rammed into the tipper moving ahead. The tipper hit the goods auto in the front, which crashed into two other cars.
“Shivakumar, the lorry cleaner, died on the spot as he sustained fatal head injuries. Prasanna fractured his leg, while Hanumantharaju and Kumar escaped with minor injuries. The lorry driver too reportedly sustained injuries, but managed to escape fearing public wrath. Efforts are on to trace him,” the police said.
“It is said that the lorry had a brake failure and it led to the mishap. It is suspected that the lorry was overloaded too. We are investigating to find out the exact reason behind the accident. Motor vehicle inspectors from RTO should confirm whether the lorry had a brake failure,” the police said.
It is said that the driver, who lost control of the vehicle, started shouting trying to alert others on the road to give him way. He was shouting that the vehicle brakes had failed. The Kamakshipalya traffic police have registered a case and are investigating.
