Kakinada: Independence Day celebrations in most of the schools and colleges including engineering colleges lacked the previous gusto and gaiety. Many of the teachers and students were conspicuous by their absence.
Many managements obliquely encourage the students to abstain from Independence Day celebrations in order to avoid expenditure of their vehicles. The teachers deliberately applied for permission to avoid attending the function. Previously, the administrators used to issue a memo to the teachers for abstaining from the function. In fact August 15 and January 26 are important days and attendance of teachers is mandatory. Prof N.K. Visweswara Rao, retired principal of a government degree college said, “The students missed the beautiful NCC March by both of boys and girls. The principal’s speech after flag hoisting has become a thing of the past as many schools and colleges have no NCC units.
