TN CM: Govt firm on two-language policy
In 1986 too, under Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, the state government passed a resolution supporting the two-language for-mula.
Chennai: Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswamy chose Independence Day to strongly convey that his ‘Amma’ government is firm on following two-language policy of Tamil and English in Tamil Nadu.
“The government is firm on its stand of supporting the two-language policy and will oppose any scheme that will affect the people of the state and will be a frontrunner in protecting people’s interests,”. Palaniswami said on Thursday quoting late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's firm stand against imposition of Hindi.
Clarifying Tamil Nadu government's position against Hindi, Palaniswami recalled that in 1968, the government under then Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai, had passed a resolution in the Assembly to remove Hindi and allow only two language policy of Tamil and English.
In 1986 too, under Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran, the state government passed a resolution supporting the two-language for-mula.
During her tenure, late CM Jayalalithaa had said the state was firm against imposing Hindi on non-Hindi speaking States and that it would continue to fight against such attempts, Palaniswami pointed out.
