Madras High Court order drives govt staff to suspend strike
You should respect the law of the land, observed Justice Sasidharan while directing the employees to report for duty immediately.
MADURAI: The indefinite strike by the government employees and teachers was called off on Friday noon on the direction of Justices K.K. Sasidharan and G.R. Swaminathan of the Madras high court, who also directed state chief secretary Girija Vaidyanathan to appear in person before this court on September 21 for ascertaining the government's views for resolving the dispute.
“You should respect the law of the land,” observed Justice Sasidharan while directing the employees to report for duty immediately.
The judges expressed the hope that the government would consider the issue with an open mind, in view of the unconditional withdrawal of the strike by the employees.
“It should be the endeavour of the government to settle the genuine demands of the employees taking into account the seventh pay commission report," said Justice Sasidharan.
