Telangana Wakf Board scam: Forged bills bleed coffers
These inconsistencies escaped detection during the Board's annual audits.
Hyderabad: Funds of the Wakf Board have been depleted by illegal recruits who have submitted forged bills and claimed allowances—including medical reimbursements, house rent and other miscellaneous expenses. These inconsistencies escaped detection during the Board’s annual audits.
Two employees living on Wakf properties have been found to be drawing House Rent Allowance (HRA) amounting to over ten percent of the rent amount, and a few have obtained loans from the Board for the construction of houses.
The minorities welfare department has now ordered an internal enquiry to examine the magnitude of the financial burden incurred as a result of these discrepancies.
An official of the TS Wakf Board says, “An enquiry is underway, and it will take at least ten days to complete. As per the preliminary findings, these employees have claimed huge amounts of money and various benefits from the Board.”
As per the rules of the Board, employees are entitled to receive various benefits including medical reimbursement, provident funds, and travel allowances.
