BJP chief Amit Shah slams CM K Chandrasekhar Rao over Martyrs Day
KCR had been unable to fulfil the promises made in 2014 polls.
MAHBUBNAGAR: BJP national president Amit Shah kickstarted the poll campaign in Telangana state by taking the fight straight to Mr Rao and his family. Mr Shah accused Mr Rao of bringing ‘family rule’ to the state and failing to meet the aspirations of the people. He said the reasons for which Telangana state was fought for and created had not been addressed by the state government. Mr Rao had been unable to fulfil the promises made in 2014 elections.
Therefore, Mr Shah declared, there is no way TRS and Mr Rao would come back to power in the state. Mr Shah expressed confidence that either BJP will secure power or a party backed by BJP would come to power in Telangana. Mr Shah launched the election campaign amid sounding the conch, beating the drums and the blowing of 119 trumpets with each trumpet sound representing one constituency in the state.
Appealing to the people to strengthen the hands of BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bring all round development of the country, he said no other political party could legitimately seek votes of the people as they had reneged on promises made in their manifestos. By speaking of the insult to former prime minister P.V. Narasimha and belittling of former CM T. Anjaiah by Rajiv Gandhi in 1983, he tried to freeze the Congress’ hopes of revival in Telangana.
Addressing a massive gathering at MVS College grounds in Mahabubnagar on Saturday, Mr Amit Shah vowed to decimate forces inimical to national unity and integrity and reaffirmed the resolve of the BJP to stamp out infiltrators from Bangladesh and Myanmar. Accusing TRS and MIM of resorting to appeasement politics, he said that BJP would stand for dharma of the nation and regard the Constitution as sacrosanct.
Mr Shah found fault with Mr Rao for seeking elections 9 months before the term ended and said that transparency was lacking in the KCR government. He asked the CM whether he would keep his promise of making a Dalit as a CM at least in 2018. Mr Shah also said that Telangana pride was compromised by Mr Rao whose government had not observed September 17 as Martyrs Day. Stoking sentiments amongst the common man, Mr Shah said.
“Telangana Asmita ki gaurav ki raksha na karegi” and underscored the need to support the BJP. Harping on the self-respect of Telangana people, Mr Shah asserted that BJP alone could honour the sentiment of Telangana by fulfilling all the promises. Making a dig at Rahul Gandhi, Mr Shah said that he was day dreaming about coming to power in Telangana. Taunting Rahul Gandhi, BJP president said that Congress as a party could not win a single election between 2014-2018 and how can it hope to win any election in poll-bound states of MP, Rajasthan, Madhyapradesh and Chattisgarh.
Claiming that time had come for Telangana's saffronisation, he appealed to the people to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi.. He said illegal immigrants from Bangladesh, and Myanmar Rohingyas were a big problem and BJP was committed to extricate them. He called for an end to appeasement politics and said the TRS-Majlis dosti needs to be exposed beyond any doubt.
