10 from Hyderabad go missing in boat mishap

A total of 22 tourists from Hyderabad were on the boat.

Hyderabad: About 10 tourists from the city, including three engineers working in the TS Police Housing Corporation, have gone missing after the boat tragedy in AP on Sunday. A total of 22 tourists from Hyderabad were on the boat.

Others listed missing are three persons from Ramanthapur, two from Madhapur, one each from Amberpet and Medipally.

Eran Sai Kumar, who is listed as missing along with his friend Taleb Patel, used to work as a fitness trainer as did Patel. Kumar’s brother Eran Sai Teja said both had gone with Mohinder and Akbal to East Godavari in a car.

Akbal’s relatives from Rajahmundry left the group there and the others went for the boat ride. “He left the house at 12 noon on Saturday. He called me in the morning and said they would return by 9 pm.”

Akbal is a manager with Flagship Fitness Gym at Madhapur while the others work as trainers. “When they were on the boat, it tilted and the three fell in the water. Mohinder survived while Sai Kumar and Taleb are missing,” said a friend of theirs at Madhapur.

 Among those who were listed safe were government pensioner C. Janaki Rama Rao of Medipally, Soheti Rajesh of Sanathnagar, N. Suresh of Jagadgirigutta, Md Majeeruddin, Kiran Kumar, Shiva Shankar of Kodad, Mohinder of Madhapur, Bharani Kumar, Vishal, P. Janani Kumar and K. Arjun of Hayathnagar.

Three of the missing were stated to be C. Jyothi, wife of survivor Janaki Rama Rao, Eran Sai Kumar and Taleb Patel of Madhapur. The details of the other missing persons were being gathered.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao (CM KCR) expressed shock over the tragedy and conveyed his deep sympathies to members of the bereaved families.

He instructed government officials to provide necessary help to the families of the victims and assist the Andhra Pradesh government in the rescue operations if necessary.

CM KCR announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each to the members of the bereaved families and directed State transport minister Puvvada Ajay Kumar to participate in the relief measures.
