Guntur: Five cops suspended for aiding bookies
There were allegations against police personnel cooperating with bookies to conduct cricket betting.
Guntur: Two sub-inspectors, an assistant sub-inspector and two constables were suspended and two home guards were removed from service in Narsaraopeta of Guntur district following allegations of their association with bookies who bet on cricket games.
Guntur Rural superintendent of police Ch V. Appala Naidu on the basis of inquiry recommended the suspension of Narasaraopeta SIs G. Assan and G. Yedukondalu and ASI Ch Srinivasa Rao.
He recommended for the suspension of Narasaraopeta One Town constables Vasanth Rao and Balaji Naik. Guntur range DIG K.V.V. Gopala Rao issued the orders on Sunday.
Mr Appala Naidu stated that Narasaraopeta Two Town home guard Y. Venkateswara Reddy and Sk Saida working with the Narasaraopeta Rural police were removed from service.
He said there were allegations against these personnel of cooperating with bookies to conduct cricket betting. He said the police had started raids and checks to curb cricket betting and arresting several bookies in the recent past. He warned police personnel of stern action if they cooperated with cricket bookies.
