Hyderabad: Eateries cook up adulteration
More than 25 cases reported in south zone alone this year in city.
Hyderabad: To earn more with little capital, eateries in Hyderabad are selling adulterated food. With an increase in food adulteration cases it the city, the bad food habit is spreading among consumers.
Mr Satyanarayana, DCP, south zone, said, “We have dealt with more than 25 cases in our area this year. However, it is under control now after we started enforcing the PD (prevention of dangerous activities) Act on offenders.”
Roadside food joints flout the hygienic norms with scant regard. “Eateries mushrooming on the roadside buy adulterated ghee, edible oil, milk, spices and masala powders,” noted the DCP.
They churn out food items in an unhealthy environment.
“What we eat from a roadside food joint is highly toxic. Even the tomato ketchup is adulterated. When we raided a unit in Marredpally we found tomato sauce and vinegar adulterated,” said another task force official.
“The offenders are booked under Sections 420 (cheating), 272 (adulteration) and 273 (sale of noxious food or drink) of the IPC and the samples are sent to laboratories for testing the toxic content,” concluded the DCP.
